NEVERWAY WIKI ยท WALKTHROUGH

Neverway Beginner Walkthrough

A day-by-day plan for your first week on Montgomery Island: what to gather, who to talk to, what to unlock, and the order that keeps you alive when the sun goes down.

Early Game Unlocks Difficulty Progression

Before You Start

You arrive as Fiona, a burned-out office worker who left her job to run a farm on Montgomery Island. The island is quiet, the soil is good, and everyone is friendly enough. It will stay that way for a while. This guide assumes you are playing on the default difficulty and have not finished the tutorial dialogue.

Use the survival tips guide alongside this one for the resource and combat reasoning behind each step below.

Day One: Get the Farm Running

Your only job on day one is to become self-sufficient enough to survive a bad night. Resist the urge to explore the whole island โ€” the map is bigger than it looks and wandering is what kills first-day runs.

Day Two: Meet the Islanders

Neverway's second half is social. Friendship unlocks combat abilities, romance options and merchant discounts, and it is the only progression track that does not depend on a lucky drop. Cosmo, Luna and Aurora all give you something useful if you show up with the right item.

How friendship actually works

Gifts work best when they are the item the character mentions in conversation, not the most valuable item you own. Two thoughtful low-tier gifts beat one expensive gift every time, because the friendship threshold advances on interaction count as well as value. Talk, gift, and repeat the same block type on a regular schedule. Hitting a character with three different gift types in one day will not move the bar faster.

Days Three to Seven: First Dungeon Run

By day three you should have a tier-two bench, a fused or upgraded weapon, a chest full of food and a door on your house. That is the checklist for a night run. Enter the nightmare with a light source, a stack of meals, and a weapon that you have tested on a tree.

  1. Enter at dusk so the night block starts while you are already inside.
  2. Clear one room at a time. Do not rush doors โ€” the first room is usually the cheapest.
  3. Roll through attacks instead of blocking, and use your weapon's long reach against fast creatures.
  4. Bank what you find. Returning with the loot is worth more than pushing one extra room with a half-empty health bar.
  5. Sleep it off, repair your gear, and go again the next night with the new tool tier.

Difficulty Advice

If you are dying at night

Almost always the cause is one of four things: no light, no food, no weapon upgrade, or no stamina left to dodge. Work down that list in order before changing anything else. The bestiary page has specific creature counter-tips if you know which one is killing you.

If progress feels slow

You are probably farming instead of fishing and crafting. Fishing has far better time-to-value than early crop farming, and cooked food sells for more raw. Shift one afternoon block per day to fishing and the same three days of work will pay for the bench upgrade that normally takes two weeks.
